Manufacturing process
From husk to compressed coco peat block.
At SM Coir, every stage of production is designed to prepare, process and compress coco peat into blocks that meet the required product specifications for bulk supply. Manufacturing capacity: 500 MT per month.
Seven steps
How every block is made.
Real photos from our Pollachi units, in the order the material moves through them.
Step 01Raw husk
Coconut husks and coir raw materials are collected and prepared for processing, forming the foundation of the coco peat production process.
Checked at this stage: Condition of the incoming raw material
Step 02Pith separation
Raw material is processed to separate coir fibres from coco peat pith and other coarse components.
Checked at this stage: Separation of fibre from pith
Step 03Washing bed
For the Low EC grade, pith is washed on our own washing beds to bring the EC down before it moves on.
Checked at this stage: EC after washing, for the Low EC block
Step 04Drying
Pith is spread across the open yard and dried as required before screening.
Checked at this stage: Moisture content
Step 05Sieving
The material is screened to the required particle size, 6 mm, 8 mm or unsieved, separating unwanted coarse material.
Checked at this stage: Particle size and fibre content
Step 06Block compression
Prepared coco peat is pressed at 5:1 into 5 kg blocks of 30 × 30 × 10 cm, to the grade and expansion specification.
Checked at this stage: Block dimensions, weight and compression
Step 07Packing & dispatch
Finished blocks are checked against the specification, then loose-stuffed into the container for dispatch to commercial buyers.
Checked at this stage: Dimensions, moisture content, expansion volume and pH; EC where relevant
